Arizona is a state rich in history, inhabited at various times by Spanish conquistadors and Apache warriors, Pioneer settlers and Goldminers. Today it attracts a different kind of explorer, the bird watcher, to its southern border with Mexico where they can view both the marvellous scenery and the spectacular birds of the Madera Canyon. This unusual wilderness area offers a wide range of desert, woodland and mountain habitat to over 150 species of nesting and migratory birds including such dazzlingly colourful varieties such as the Heavenly Blue Grosbeak, the Flaming Vermillion Flycatcher, the Vivid Yellow and Red Western Tanager, the Iridescent Green and Violent Magnificent Hummingbird and the rare and much sought after Elegant Trogan.
