THE MONTGOMERYSHIRE CANAL

Becks Price: £12.99
£-12.99 ()

The route of the Montgomeryshire canal takes it through some of the most spectacularly beautiful scenery in Britain. The canal was never heavily used and when it suffered a serious breach in February 1936 it was quickly abandoned.

Its ongoing restoration is one of the most remarkable stories of modern canal history. It's a story with royal connections; and it's a story that has involved thousands of waterway enthusiasts and which led to the formation of the Waterways Recovery Group.

It's told to us on video by Harry Arnold, a waterway photographer and journalist. Harry has a unique collection of photographs, film and video about the Mont, all of which he has kindly made available to us for this programme. His knowledge of the canal is unrivalled.

Harry's a founder member of the restoration group and is still an active participant in every way. Harry's fluid style, his fund of anecdotes and his burning passion for this waterway make this a gem of a programme, one that every serious waterway enthusiast will want to own and watch over and over again.
