Top sports science coach Phil Coley (son of Ian Coley, Manager of the Great Britain Olympic Shooting Team) takes English Sporting Clays enthusiast Liam Dale under his wing for a day, in order to coach him; not on his technique specifically but on his attitude and approach to his sport.
The day starts with a straight shoot over thirty clays; Teal, a Going Away target and Grouse in order for Phil to assess Liam's standard of shooting. The results of these thirty birds and a short but penetrating question and answer session soon helps Phil establish where Liam's difficulties lie in achieving a consistency with his shooting.
Then Phil goes to work, guiding Liam through a series of easily comprehensive but very valuable mental exercises including relaxation and concentration. There is a simple physical exercise programme that does not severely tax our overweight pupil! Adrenalin control, the "no bird!" call, the pressure of the 9th and 10th birds when you may be on for a straight.... All are dealt with effectively by Phil Coley; a leading figure in this newly developing area of sport enlightenment. And at the end of the day.... another thirty bird shoot.
The results speak for themselves.
