THRESHERS AND THRESHING

The glory days of threshing were when the threshing equipment travelled from farm to farm with the steam traction engine or tractor.

This programme shows the development of threshing techniques from the flail to the combine, and in particular the threshing machine.

It explains clearly the technology of the thresher and shows drums working with portable engines, traction engines and tractors.

Retired farm workers recall the skills and hard work of the threshing gangs of the 1942. The programme is presented by Chris Opperman.
