TRADITIONAL ENGLISH HEDGELAYING

The art of hedgelaying (or layering) has been practised for centuries and for good reasons.

It maintains a dense, healthy hedge which forms a secure barrier while encouraging wildlife.

Unfortunately, this skill is now in decline having been superseded by machinery which trims the top but leaves a build-up of debris at the base, discouraging growth from below and leading to unsightly gaps through which stock could escape.

This DVD gives us a practical demonstration of hedgelaying by one of the country's leading experts, George Bevan.

It is very important for the environment that this craft should not disappear so hopefully, with the help of this video, George's knowledge will inform and inspire the guardians of our countryside both now and in the future.
