THE LLANGOLLEN CANAL

Twice as long as our original Llangollen Canal DVD, this programme has been completely remade from scratch, and it's taken us over four years to do it. Like all our current programmes, it's produced in full wide screen format.

We feature the internationally famous Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir, when they kindly invited us to one of their rehearsals. The canal's original route was diverted into Whitchurch for the important cheese trade, and so this programme also features a specially commissioned period re-enactment of loading and carrying cheese in the horse drawn Shroppie Fly Boat "Saturn". Whitchurch is home to one of the oldest family firms still in existence, JB Joyce & Co., who make tower clocks, and we are taken into the tower of the parish church by Joyce's General Manager to witness the clock being wound. The 1849 timepiece comes from the same era as the canal.

The canal takes us through the beautiful Cheshire countryside, and across two of the most splendid structures on the entire canal network, as we cross the gorges created by the Welsh Mountain rivers on two spectacular aqueducts, one of which is now a World Heritage site. The programme culminates with a visit to the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
