These archive film extracts trace the development of mechanised cereal harvesting. The programme starts with the scythe, thresher and binder. It leads on to early combines including examples from Massey-Harris, International, Case, Allis and Claas.

Models from the 1950s include more Massey-Harris as well as John Deere, Lanz and Ferguson. There is a major section on Ransomes and Claas. Massey Ferguson and New Holland bring the story up to date and the Claas Lexion.

Brian Bell's informative script narrated by Chris Opperman links the film extracts and traces a century's changes in the harvest field.
