DURHAM NATIONAL VINTAGE TRACTOR ROAD RUN 2009

Flass Vale Vintage Tactor Club, under the chairmanship of Brian Watson, had the privilege of organising the 2009 National Vintage Tractor Road Run in the county of Durham.

The start point was Ushaw College, a Roman Catholic Seminary and Conference Centre, which offered both overnight accommodation and a magnificent refectory.

The tractors gathered in very pleasant parkland and were blessed by Father John Marsland before departing on a 25-mile tour around the villages and open countryside west of Durham. It was hard to believe that much of the beautiful rolling countryside was once dominated by open cast mining.

Around 400 tractors assembled for the run, including a rare Lister Goldstar, a 1963 International 706, a GM two-stroke powered Oliver 1900, a forward-control County 1174, an International All-Wheel Drive 634, a MF 1130 and a four-wheel drive Fordson E27N fitted with a V8 Perkins engine.

This was reckoned to be one of the best 'Nationals' yet with superb weather, scenery and organisation.
