22 nations were represented in Hong Kong for the Eventing competition, with 11 competing for a team prize. Each country could be represented by a maximum of 5 riders with the 3 best scores counting.

As a result of the expected heat, both the dressage test and the cross country course were considerably shortened.

As expected in the dressage phase, Australia and Germany dominated with both countries getting 3 riders under 40 penalties. 15 riders are featured.

In the cross country with the distance of the course cosiderably shortened, no rider got anywhere near the optimum time but Germany inched ahead as Lucinda Fredericks, the overnight leader, had a hatful of time penalties. Great Britain moved into third as the USA faltered. Comprehensive highlights of the cross country are included.

In a dramatic show jumping conclusion, the Germans made up for their disaster in Athens by maintaining their advantage over Australia and Great Britain, and then in a wonderful finale, Tina Cook and Miners Frolic set the target with a second clear round. As the tension mounted, medal contenders came and went until the USA's Gina Miles on McKinlaigh and finally Hinrich Romeike on Marius secured the top two prizes.
