From late 50's through the 60s and into the 70's, the colour of Formula One was surely "British racing green", as Teams Cooper, BRM, Brabham and Lotus with drivers like Hawthorn, Clark and Hill, the technological genius of Colin Chapman and the English gent Rob Walker, F1's most successful privateer in history, became legends in an era known as the Golden Age of Motor Sport.

This unique programme, packed full of archive racing footage, on and off the race tracks of the world, and personal anecdotes, is the dramatic and inspirational story of three of those legends.

Jim Clark - may have been the most naturally talented driver ever to appear in Formula One. In this dominant 1965 season in the Lotus 33, he led every lap of every race he finished and went on to break the legendary Fangio's record for career victories in 1968 but died just months later at Hockenheim in an F2 race after crashing into the trees in a still unexplained, accident.

Mike Hawthorn - was the first British driver to win the F1 World Championship but it was clouded by tragedy as first team mate Luigi Musso and then his close friend Peter Collins lost their lives on the track. Hawthorn retired from the sport, becoming the first post-war champion not to defend his title only to be killed in his Jaguar in a single vehicle road accident in 1959.

Rob Walker - first entered a private F1 team in 1958 after he had given up racing himself. Sterling Moss secured an historic victory in Argentina in a Walker-entered Cooper in 1958 with the first victory for a rear-engined car and Jo Siffert winning the 1968 British GP at Brands Hatch has gone down in the record books as the last genuine privateer victory in Formula 1.
